Graskop Gorge Lift.
WaterBear Technologies is proud to announce the successful installation of a precision-engineered ZF 450 wastewater treatment plant (1 500 L/day) at the Graskop Gorge Lift Company in Mpumalanga. The compact system, discreetly positioned below the George Bar toilets about 40–50 m down, was installed and commissioned in just two days now operating efficiently at one of the province’s top tourist attractions.
Project Overview
Client: George Bar, Graskop Gorge Lift Company, R533 Graskop, MpumalangaSystem Capacity: ZF 450 – 1 500 L per day Duration: Installation over 2 days Location Details: The plant is located approx. 40 – 50 metres down in the gorge, under the visitor toilets at the bar/gallery area of the Graskop Gorge Lift attraction.
Tailored Solution
What posed a challenge was the access & positioning: the plant needed to be lowered from the top of the gorge into a narrow basin beneath the tourist area, with minimal disruption and full functional integrity. At WaterBear Technologies we say: “no challenge too steep”. We supplied and installed the ZF 450 system, selected for its compact footprint, robustness and suitability for remote/low-visibility placement. The plant is effectively out of view, cleverly integrated beneath the toilets and basin, preserving the aesthetic and visitor experience of one of Mpumalanga’s flagship tourist sites (the ride down and forest walk of the Graskop Gorge Lift).
Installation & Timeline
Day 1: Mobilised to site, prepared the drop-zone, rigged the lowering equipment and safely lowered the ZF 450 unit from top of gorge into final position.
Day 2: Completed all pipework, connections, commissioning and functionality tests; handed over to the client with full operational assurance.
All work completed within two calendar days, ensuring minimal interruption to visitor operations and service at the Gorge bar facility.
Environmental & Operational Impact
By installing a high-efficiency ZF 450 1 500 L/day plant, the client now benefits from a discreet, low-maintenance wastewater solution that supports the site’s heavy traffic and remote location. The system’s hidden placement protects the natural appeal of the gorge, while conforming to best practice in wastewater management for tourism‐heavy sites. This installation reflects our commitment to providing eco-conscious, visitor-friendly, and technically robust solutions in even the most demanding terrains.
Client Satisfaction
The team at the Graskop Gorge Lift Company now operate a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant that is virtually invisible to guests yet fully effective and operational. WaterBear Technologies delivered on time, on budget and without disruption, the client is pleased with the result.
